Transfers join OU baseball team

OU baseball signs two transfers

The Ottawa University baseball team added two transfers for the 2009-2010 season.

Brett Gearhart is a transfer from Culver-Stockton and attended Fort Osage High School in Independence, Mo.

Brett Miller is a transfer from Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. and attended Valley Falls High School.

Gearhart was a first team all-district selection and a second team all-area selection in 2006. He was a two-time first team all-conference performer.

“Gearhart is a tough nosed blue collar type of player that is a junior transfer looking to make an impact on our roster and in our program’s success. He has collegiate experience and possesses good range, solid arm and consistent stick,” Ottawa coach Joe Reed said. “Brett will give everything he has to help the ballclub and will fit in well with the other team members in attitude and work habits.”

Gearhart plans to major in physical education.

Miller, a utility player, earned two letters in baseball at Chipola College and was a four-year letter winner for the Valley Falls.

“Miller is a fiery leadoff type of hitter that is a transfer outfielder/utility player that has above average speed, good arm and finds a way to get on base. He has the ability to be an impact kind of guy and is also looking to be with a solid program that he can feel a part of,” Reed said. “Brett has both 4-year and juco experience and will be able to lend leadership to this squad.  He should be one of the guys that can be a spark for our team both on the field and in the clubhouse.”

Foursome wins senior scramble

The foursome of Rick Crawford, Don Hill, C.W. Brazeal and Karon Crosby won Monday’s senior scramble with a minus-5. Gary Griffin (No. 3) and John Lovgren (No. 7) were closest to the pin winners.
