New businesses, housing highlight Pomona growth

By JODIE GARCIA, Herald Staff Writer

New businesses and new housing are changing the landscape of Pomona.

Leroy’s, which opened its doors in October of 2007, took the place of Cindy’s Dairy Bar at 203 E. Franklin St.

The restaurant offers burgers and other items.

Buzzards Pizza, a popular place to grab a slice, is moving to a larger location on Franklin Street, Linda Servaes, Pomona city clerk, said.

Servaes said Pomona also is doing well in the area of housing, noting that more than 20 new homes have been built in the last few years.

She said a new subdivision is in the works for the northwest part of town.

Construction is to happen in two phases, Servaes said, but she didn’t know when it would begin or how many additional homes it could bring to Pomona.

In the area of retail, Servaes said local merchants are in the process of forming the Pomona Merchant’s Association and will have four big projects each year.

Servaes said she hopes more businesses continue to set up shop in the city and that the subdivision takes shape.

“That’s probably our future for right now,” she said.
