Officers partnering with doughnuts

By COURTNEY SERVAES, Herald Staff Writer

It’s not your typical misdemeanor.

It’s a coffee and glazed doughnut.

It’s not your typical felony. It’s 12 glazed doughnuts for $5.99.

And it’s certainly not your typical dog biscuit. It’s a doughnut with sprinkles on it for half a green George Washington.

And it’s for a good cause, Lt. Adam Weingartner, with the Ottawa Police Department, said of the statewide Cops on Donut Shops campaign.

“Throughout the year, Franklin County Law Enforcement joins forces to raise money for Special Olympians,” Weingartner said in a media release.

Weingartner said officers from the Ottawa Police Department will camp out on the roof of Daylight Donuts, 1644 S. Main St., Ottawa, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday to help raise money for the annual Kansas Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

“For this event, we joined with departments in Overland Park, Merriam and Wichita for the Statewide Cops on Donut Shops events,” Weingartner said.

To kick the event off, Daylight Donuts is donating $100, but others can join in and donate to the cause, too, Weingartner said.
