Playhouse memories

Veda Rogers, author of “Life’s About a Dream: A Memoir” and founder of Vassar Playhouse, visits Wednesday night with Louise Ratliff, Ottawa, after having a copy of the book signed during a program at the Old Depot Museum, 135 W. Tecumseh St., Ottawa. Rogers, a Quenemo native, founded the theater in 1970 and put on productions for 16 years. Ratliff said she remembered seeing a few of the performances at the Vassar Playhouse years ago. Rogers and her husband also owned the Whippoorwill Showboat on which they gave performances while navigating the waters of Pomona Lake. The Whippoorwill famously capsized June 17, 1978, after being hit by a freak tornado at the lake. Sixty passengers and crew were on board during the incident, which killed 16.
