A 50-year-old Ottawa man was killed and two other Ottawa men suffered traumatic injuries in a one-vehicle rollover crash early Wednesday evening in northern Franklin County.
A green GMC Envoy driven by a 26-year-old Ottawa man was traveling north about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 4300 block of Iowa Road, between Shawnee and Stafford roads, when the driver lost control and the Envoy rolled over and struck multiple trees before coming to rest on its side in a thicket near the road, Jeff Curry, Franklin County sheriff, said at the scene.

The driver and a passenger, a 24-year-old Ottawa man, were transported by air ambulance to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka and a Kansas City area hospital with traumatic injuries, Curry said. The other passenger, the 50-year-old Ottawa man, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff said.
Members of the Franklin County Crash Team and detectives with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene, Curry said, to investigate the crash and try to determine what the circumstances were leading up to the rollover. The sheriff said alcohol might have been a contributing factor, but he said that would not be determined until the investigation was completed.
“Right now we are investigating it as alcohol was a possibility,” Curry said.
The sheriff’s office had not released the victims’ names as of 7 p.m. Tuesday, pending notification of family members, Curry said.
Franklin County Emergency Medical Services personnel and Centropolis and Pomona firefighters also were on the scene Wednesday evening south of Centropolis in rural northern Franklin County.
It was not clear if the victims were wearing seat belts.
