Law enforcement officers searching for tips in Wellsville arson, burglary case

By COURTNEY SERVAES, Herald Staff Writer

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville Police Chief Steve Gillespie said police still are investigating a Tuesday fire in Wellsville.

Gillespie said the fire, which was started at a home on West Third Street, appears to be arson.

“It looks like someone might have poured a liquid on the side of the home and maybe in the yard, and it had burnt,” Gillespie said.

The home did not have extreme damage, but Gillespie said there was some discoloration on the side of the house.

Gillespie added that no one was injured, however, the garage did appear to have been broken into.

“We still have a pending investigation going on,” he said. “At this point, I don’t believe there were any items reported missing.”

Anyone with information about this crime should call the Franklin County Crime Stoppers at (888) 311-TIPS — that’s (888) 311-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.

Franklin County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of any person(s) committing a felony crime in Franklin County.
