CHIPPEWA GOOD SAMS

The July meeting of the Chippewa Good Sams was at Santa Fe Group Camp, Council Grove. There were nine rigs present with 17 members and one guest. Hosts for the campout were Jim and Sue Bauman, Don and Marilyn Hay and Roy and Delores Willis.

During the business meeting, Lee Bulmer, president, announced he had contacted the other District VI clubs inviting them to attend the October campout at Crossroads. Plans were discussed for the catered Christmas meeting. The members were informed that honorary member, Marilyn Sawin, had passed away.

All who attended enjoyed good food, good company and great weather. All were greatly saddened by the death of our good camping friend, Lawrence Colson, at the end of July. Our support and love goes out to Patty and the family.

The August campout was at Lake Shawnee. There were nine rigs with 18 members and one guest. Hosts for the campout were Jim and Rosemary Hackett, David and Norma Bird and David and Virginia Martinson. Roll call was answered by “If you won the lottery, what would you buy first?”

Five couples announced their intentions to attend the Fall Samboree at Winfield the first weekend of October. Members enjoyed visiting the Combat Air Museum during the campout. Carl Rice, Patty Colson and Jim and Rosemary Hackett’s grandson, Tony, joined the campers for the Friday evening meal.

Rick and Tammy Miller and their children entertained the campers with music  Saturday evening. Carl Rice joined the campers for that evening as Marilyn was in the hospital during the campout. The campers enjoyed a great weekend.

The September campout was at Wolf Creek group camp at Lake Pomona. There were 15 rigs with 26 members and two guests. Guests were Donald and Betty Hanna, Clinton, Mo.

Hosts for the campout were Bill and Mary Engle, Don and Marilyn Hay and Frank and Carol Weers. The campers enjoyed eating out Thursday evening at local restaurants.

Card playing, Bocci ball and visiting were enjoyed on Friday with the hosts furnishing vegetable soup and chili for the evening meal. Side dishes were furnished by the others. On Saturday morning, the hosts served cinammon rolls prior to the business meeting. Roll call was answered by “If you could go back in time, with whom would you like to spend a day with.”

Some very touching answers were given. Final plans were made for attending the Samboree at Winfield.

The officers for the 2009 year were elected. New officers were David and Virginia Martinson, presidents; Carl and Marilyn Rice, vice presidents; Sherril Unruh, secretary/treasurer; and Jim and Rosemary Hackett, wagon masters. A big “thank you” was given to presidents, Lee and Peggy Bulmer, for their dedicated work.

The upcoming year’s camping schedule was discussed. Following the meeting the campers again enjoyed Bocci ball, card games and visiting. The evening meal was a cookout. Wonderful fall weather and a campfire each evening helped to complete a great weekend.

The October campout will be at Crossroads RV park, Lyndon.
