Back to the ‘50s

The staff at Ottawa Retirement Village, 1100 W. 15th St., had a “Back to the ‘50s Family Fun Night” for its residents and families on Sept. 18. More than 100 residents and 400 guests ranging in age from 1 to 101 enjoyed seeing the vintage cars. The campus was decorated with Elvis, vinyl records, a juke box, electric guitars, musical note centerpieces for the tables and vintage car decorations were on the sides of the buildings. The staff and residents dressed the part with poodle skirts and saddle shoes. A ‘50s dress up contest featured poodle skirts, the Pink Ladies and Handsome Jim. The residents and guests had “hot off the grill” hamburgers and half-pound hot dogs with all the trimmings. The Youth Action Council and Girl Scout from Troops Nos. 2082, 5310 and 1470 took part in volunteering to help supervise the games and assist residents and guests.
