Cyclone VB falls twice in Paola

By The Herald Staff

PAOLA — First games have not been kind to the Ottawa High School volleyball team this season.

The Cyclones have gotten off to slow starts several times this season.

Ottawa could not dig out of those early holes Tuesday at Paola in Frontier League matches.

Ottawa fell to Gardner (25-7, 25-18) and Paola (25-15, 25-23).

“We had two more tough losses. The positive thing was that we fought hard in the second sets of both matches, but we weren’t able to pull them out,” Ottawa coach Kendra Oberzan said.

“Hopefully we will be able to learn from these experiences and get better in the coming weeks.”

The Cyclones were coming off a three straight wins in the OHS tourney.

Ottawa (10-17) plays Tuesday at home.

Jaime Birzer — 9 kills, 14 digs, 2.5 passing average

Angela Geist — 11 assists

Maggie Bones — 12 digs

Alyssa Currier — 2.44 passing average
