From bridge equipment to oil changes, area vendors are joining in the U.S. 59 project.

Ames Construction, contractor for a new, four-lane U.S. 59 highway stretching from Ottawa to Lawrence, is using a variety of out-of-state, area and local vendors, Carla Brown, Ames safety employee and secretary, said.

According to a list of vendors and accounts from Ames, more than 20 local companies are providing such services and products as motels, office supplies, tools, farm supplies, tires and more.

Brown said while Ames sticks with local vendors for certain products and work, the company also has out-of-state vendors for other aspects of construction.

She said the company is involved in so many projects in other states that it makes sense to use the same company for all of its rebar needs, for example.

“That way we know who we’re working with,” Brown said.
