Cyclones stave off St. Mary's

By The Herald Staff

ATCHISON — The Ottawa High School volleyball team jumped all over St. Mary’s, the fourth ranked team in 2A, Thursday at Atchison.

St. Mary’s closed the gap to make the final scores look better in the Ottawa 26-24, 25-22 victory.

The Cyclones earned the sweep with a 25-11, 25-15 win over Atchison.

“It was good to take both matches tonight,” Ottawa coach Kendra Oberzan said. “We were able to work on a few things in the first match, and see a new line up in action. In the second match we jumped out to big leads in both games, and then let down and allowed St. Mary to come back.

“We finished both games strong, and stayed tough when the score was tight.  Good blocking and serving gave us the upper hand, and enabled us to pull out the wins.”

Ottawa (24-4) plays Tuesday at Spring Hill.
