OSAGE CITY — The West Franklin High School cross country runners have a better idea what the competition be will like in next week’s Flint Hills League meet.
The Falcons will be the host school at next Thursday’s competition at Pomona Lake.
“We don’t get to see too many of our league schools,” West Franklin coach Jerald Johnson said. “Four of our league schools were there. We know the league girls we need to be with.”
The league race will be a first home meet for all of the Falcon runners and coach.
“It is going to be exciting,” Johnson said.
West Franklin competed well against the field at Osage City. All four varsity girls finished in the top 22 and the time between the runners was sliced to about 30 seconds.
“We are closing the gap between the first and the last [runner],” Johnson said. “We are starting to come together. We have the team concept down.”
Taylor Slavens paced the Falcons in ninth place. Michelle Nelson finished second in the girls junior varsity race and Cody Reed won the boys JV race.
