Wellsville spikes league opponents

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville High School volleyball team made it a clean sweep Tuesday in its final home matches of the season.

Wellsville swept Iola (25-17, 25-17) and Central Heights (23-25, 25-12, 25-15). It was senior and breast cancer awareness night with the color of pink in full force throughout Kermit Deterding Gym.

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville High School volleyball team made it a clean sweep Tuesday in its final home matches of the season.

Wellsville swept Iola (25-17, 25-17) and Central Heights (23-25, 25-12, 25-15). It was senior and breast cancer awareness night with the color of pink in full force throughout Kermit Deterding Gym.

“Our last match of the night against Central Heights was an emotional one for the seniors,” Wellsville coach Eric Evans said. “Our team hasn’t played any other team this year that played harder than Central Heights did.”

Wellsville (16-14, 5-3) plays Saturday in the Anderson County Invitational.

Stat leaders

Darcy Bonzo: 46 assists, 2 stuff blocks.

Erica McTaggart: 15 kills, 2.45 serve-receive, 12 digs.

Emily Strawn: 12 kills.

Ashley Sparks: 20 kills, 2.67 serve-receive.
