Kansas wheat photo contest video features area photographer

By The Herald Staff

MANHATTAN -- A musical slideshow of more than 50 photographs featuring Kansas wheat includes an award-winning photo by an Osage City resident.

Kathie Corwine of Osage City took second in a photo contest sponsored by the Kansas Wheat Commission. Her photo is among the more than 50 taken by more than 30 people.

The slide show is set to the music of "Air and Simple Gifts," arranged by John Williams, and used at the inauguration of President Obama in Janurary.

The video is an effort to illustrate the beauty and importance of wheat to the state of Kansas, Bill Spiegel, communications specialist for the Kansas Wheat Commission, said.

The contest was conducted at the 2009 Kansas State Fair in September.

First went to Travis Stutzman, Sedgwick. Third went  Sarah Heller, Tescott; fourth to Audri Burgess, McPherson and fifth, Joyce Conard, Hutchinson.

The show — available on this page —  also can be found at www.YouTube.com and on the Web site of the Kansas Wheat Commission, www.kansaswheat.org
