Ottawans jailed in Pomona Casey’s robbery

By VICKIE MOSS, Herald Public Affairs Editor

Two Ottawa men accused of using a knife to rob the Pomona Casey’s were in jail Monday on $20,000 bond.

Andrew Brandon Beauchamp, 24, and Michael Lynn Powell, 51, each were arrested Sunday on suspicion of aggravated robbery and theft.

Two employees were the only people inside the Casey’s, 135 W. Franklin St., Pomona, at about 10 p.m. Saturday when a man entered the store and displayed a knife, Lt. Jeff Curry, with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, said.

That man and another man left with an undisclosed amount of money, Curry said. Witnesses who were outside the store helped identify the suspects’ vehicle, he said.

Through an investigation, officers obtained a search warrant and arrested Beauchamp and Powell without incident early Sunday morning at an Ottawa residence, Curry said. They also recovered money believed to be from the Casey’s store.

A report has been forwarded to the county attorney’s office, which was closed Monday for the Columbus Day holiday.
