Anderson County sweeps Pioneer cross-country titles

GARNETT — The Anderson County High School boys cross-country team had five boys in the top 19 to edge Central Heights for the Pioneer League title Thursday in Garnett.

The Bulldogs had 45 points to Central Heights’ 53. Wellsville finished fifth with 99 points.

The Anderson County girls made it a sweep of league titles with a perfect score of 15. The Bulldogs placed six in the top 11.

Central Heights was second with 51 points.

Viking senior Ethan Van Zant won the boys race, winning by 11 seconds over Osawatomie’s Brendan Soucie.

Anderson County’s Arthur White, Evan Bennett and Dustin Bonzo were third through fifth.

Central Heights freshman Trever Burkdoll was eighth. Wellsville’s Derek Moore finished 10th. Central Heights’ Mason Robertson took 12th.

The top seven in each race are first-team all-league with the next seven being honorable mention.

Anderson County’s Amanda Moore finished second in the girls race. Paige Porter was third and Leah Yoder, fifth.

Wellsville’s Rebecka Ohlmeier took sixth. Anderson County’s Kevyn Jacobus was eighth, followed by Wellsville’s Hannah Boehm and Anderson County’s Jessica Rockers.

Central Heights’ Alicia Croci was 12th.
