Cross-country regionals

A few area high school cross-country teams are coming off strong performances a week ago in their league meets. The Anderson County girls, West Franklin and Wellsville boys were league champions.

Regional races determine if teams and/or individuals qualify for state. The top three teams and five individuals not on the qualifying teams make it to state.

Anderson County will have home course advantage with the 4A regional at the Garnett Country Club. Ottawa and the Bulldogs will compete at the 4A regional. The girls race is at 1:30 p.m. followed by the boys.

The Wellsville boys are poised to make another run at a state title. The Eagles were ranked No. 1 in 3A earlier this season and finished third last year at state.

Wellsville, West Franklin and Central Heights compete at Burlington. The races will be at John Redmond Reservoir. The girls race starts at 10 a.m. followed by the boys.
