Ottawa’s season came to an end in the first round of sub-state Saturday with a 25-19, 25-13 loss to Paola in Osawatomie.

“All season our biggest obstacle to overcome has been ourselves and for a variety of reasons the same was true for us,” Ottawa coach Kendra Oberzan said. “I thought in the first set the girls started the match very courageously. We fought hard and were playing back and forth with Paola through 15.

“Our passing and defensive effort kept us in the game, but our hitting errors hurt us. In both sets we made 14 hitting errors which is unusually high for our team. In the second set we lost our defensive intensity that kept us in the first game, which brought about a quick ending to our season.”

Ottawa finished 18-21.
