Beginning Wednesday, both north- and southbound lanes of Old U.S. 59 on either side of the 650 North Road interchange in Douglas County will be closed to all traffic. Kansas Department of Transportation workers are expected to begin work on the road’s reconstruction at that time.

The east- and westbound lanes are expected to remain open. Drivers needing to access Old U.S. 59 must use new U.S. 59 to the U.S. 56 or 1000 Road interchanges to exit, then access Old U.S. 59.

The portion of the Old U.S. 59 project work is scheduled to be completed in mid-November 2012, weather permitting.
