Central Heights was not about to be left out of the postseason for the first time in several seasons. The Vikings came through in a big way in an elimination district game Thursday at Central Heights.

The Vikings throttled Osage City, 38-13, to finish as the district runner-up. Central Heights (4-5) plays 7 p.m. Tuesday at district champion Humboldt (7-2).

The winner advances to Saturday’s second round against the winner of Colgan (6-3) and Neodesha (7-2).

Wellsville completed its late-season surge with a 42-7 win over Franklin County. The Eagles (5-4) are the district champions and plays 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Burlington (4-5), which was a district runner-up.

The winner of the Wellsville-Burlington game advances to the second round against the survivor of the Caney (8-1) and Galena (6-3) game. Galena eliminated the Eagles in last year’s second round of the playoffs.

Frontier League

Six of the seven Frontier League schools qualified for the 4A playoffs. Four of them will play for the second time in Tuesday’s opening-round.

Baldwin (6-3) plays at Spring Hill (5-4). Eudora (8-1) has a rematch at home with De Soto (4-5). Paola (5-4), which edged Louisburg, has a home game against Chanute (5-4).

Louisburg (5-4) plays at undefeated Fort Scott in a rematch of last year’s first round playoff game won by Louisburg.
