Area events offer spooktacular fun

By RACHEL HAWKINS, Herald Staff Writer

Franklin County citizens will be able to have some Halloween fun this weekend with many local organizations sponsoring events.

The Wellsville Chamber of Commerce will have its annual Hallowesta, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday.

All ages can participate in a costume contest. Participants should be lined up by 4 p.m. Judging will begin at 4:15 p.m. More than six age groups are available and prizes will be given for the winners in all groups. A hot dog roast will follow the costume contest at 5 p.m. in front of the fire station.

The Ottawa Jaycees will be host to the annual Ottawa Spook Parade Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Carnegie Cultural Center, 515 S. Main St. Ottawa.

The event is a trick-or-treat community walk along downtown’s Main Street to visit local businesses.

The event is open to children who can walk through 12 years old. They must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Local canines can participate in Halloween, too. Cottonwood Animal Hospital, east of Ottawa at 3161 K-68, will have a benefit canine costume contest 1 p.m. Saturday to support the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter.

With a $5 entry fee, each dog will walk down an aisle decorated for Halloween.

“Everyone in the community has been very supportive,” Gina Angeli, pet trainer and receptionist at Cottonwood said.

The event will be outside and has been in the works since the end of September.

“One of our groomers mentioned we should do something like this,” she said. “We just thought it would be a great idea to benefit the shelter.”
