Project aims to ‘Stamp-Out’ hunger

By The Herald Staff

A local man wants your help to end hunger in the community.

Jeff De Kraai, with National Recovery Services, is putting together a project to “Stamp-Out Hunger” in Ottawa.

His goal is to provide a meal at 4 p.m. on the third Friday of each month to families in need, followed by handing out such items as canned foods, bread and produce.

The event would be in the parking lot behind National Recovery Services, 416 S. Main St., Suite 3, Ottawa.

“This is the first time I’ve done something like this,” he said in an e-mail about the project. “So any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Community contacts and food donations would also help keep this project going through these tough economic times.”

De Kraai is looking for a pastor interested in saying the opening prayer and ministering to people who attend as well as an alternate indoor location for when the weather is bad.

He said volunteers are needed to help with the meals and to pass out fliers. Donations of such food as canned goods, produce and bread are needed continuously, too.

Anyone interested in volunteering or with questions can e-mail De Kraai at jeff@nrsllc.net. The first Stamp-Out will be Nov. 20.
