Congresswoman-elect's husband files divorce petition

By Chris Green, Harris News Service

TOPEKA (HNS) -- The husband of the 2nd District's newly elected congresswoman filed for divorce Friday, three days after her campaign victory.

Scott Jenkins filed the petition in Shawnee County District Court. He is married to Republican State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, who unseated incumbent Democrat Nancy Boyda on Tuesday.

Scott Jenkins' attorney, Thomas G. Lemon, could not be reached for comment Sunday. Lynn Jenkins spokesman Josh Hersh said the filing was a personal, family matter and declined to comment further. The couple has been married 24 years and have two children.

Lynn Jenkins, 45, was elected state treasurer in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. She previously served two years in the Kansas House and two years in the Kansas Senate.
