Lady Braves VB advances to semifinals

The Ottawa University volleyball team kept marching through the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tuesday with a straight sets win over Saint Mary in the first round of the KCAC Tournament in Wilson Field House.

The top four seeds advanced to Friday’s semifinals. Top-seeded Ottawa (28-5) plays 7 p.m. Friday at home against No. 4 Tabor, which features former Central Heights standout Katelin Horstick. The other semifinal has No. 3 Friends traveling to Salina to face second-seeded Kansas Wesleyan.

The championship match will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the highest seed’s court. It will be in Ottawa if the Lady Braves prevail.

Ottawa rolled to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-17 victory over No. 8 seed Saint Mary. It was the final collegiate match for Saint Mary senior and former Ottawa High School standout Shelby Titus.

The victory was Ottawa’s 16th straight win and 20th in the past 21 matches.

Senior Kristen Hendrickson led the Lady Braves with 16 kills and hitting percentage of .400. Allie Arnold had nine kills. Taylor Bridge finished with eight. Nicole Gingery had seven kills and hit .545.

Senior setter Chrissie Jeannin compiled 35 assists and six digs. Senior Katie Jensen led Ottawa with 12 digs. Hendrickson and Bridge had eight digs each.
