Customers become sellers in rough times

Patrick Everett said he sees the effects of the economy in his business.

Everett, who owns JW Collectibles, 1534 S. Main St., thinks people are bringing more business to him because of the difficult times as people look to sell items for extra cash.

“There is just a lack of jobs in Ottawa right now,” he said. “People just need to sell that stuff.”

Everett said while business is steady throughout the week, people also bring items to him during the weekends.

“It’s hard to say, but I guess people bring more to me during the week,” he said. “I’m getting everyone. Families, single people, everyone.”

 Lisa McDaniel-Wilhite, who owns Oh So Unique Boutique, 610 Main St., Wellsville, has had multiple vendors sell items in her store.

“It’s basically to bring in some extra money on the side,” McDaniel-Wilhite said.

She has vendors who make hair bows that are used for cheer and dance teams, and one vendor from Peculiar, Mo., who makes jewelry. Another vendor from Wellsville sells beaded bracelets.

“It’s just a way for them to make money,” she said.
