New 4-H club forming in Rantoul

By MEAGAN PATTON, Herald Connections Editor

With a little help from some friends, Franklin County has a new 4-H club.

About 15 members of the Rantoul Record Breakers 4-H Club elected officers Nov. 9.

The newly elected officers include Tasha Jongenelen, president; Jennifer Hamblen, vice president; and Liz Louden, secretary/treasurer.

The club’s formation came after another 4-H Club, the Princeton Goal Busters, voted to give $100 toward forming a new one.

“We just thought geographically it would be more inviting if there was one on the other side of the county,” the Rantoul club’s leader, Darla Ouellette, said. “It might give more kids more of an opportunity to participate.”

Ouellette is the former co-leader of the Princeton club and has a daughter participating in 4-H.

Although the club hasn’t set any formal goals yet, Ouellette said, she would like the new members to focus on keeping up their record books.

At the next meeting, members will begin construction on a float for the Ottawa Christmas parade, as well as enjoy holiday music and treats.

The Rantoul Record Breakers meet at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at Ruhamah Baptist Church, 2093 Texas Road. For more information, call Ouellette at (785) 878-3310.
