OU duo receives KCAC honors

Ottawa University seniors Shane Gimzo and Pierce Hutchens were selected the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference players of the week.

Gimzo was the offensive player of the week for the second time this season. Hutchens was the defensive player of the week. Ottawa bested Bethel, 51-6, in the regular-season finale to garner its second straight KCAC championship.

Gimzo finished with 303 of the 457 yards for the Braves. Gimzo is the only Brave in recent memory to rush, pass, and catch a touchdown in a single game.

He had four touchdowns. He completed 15 of 24 passes for 177 yards. He rushed for 111 yards. He caught a 15-yard touchdown pass to complete the scoring trifecta.

Hutchens recovered two fumbles and tallied eight tackles for the Braves. The Ottawa defense did not surrender a point to the Threshers, who scored on a 100-yard interception return.
