Report: Man passed fake $100 bill in Wellsville

By MEAGAN PATTON, Herald Connections Editor

WELLSVILLE — Police are investigating a case involving a counterfeit $100 bill found Friday at a store in Wellsville.

Wellsville Police Chief Steve Gillespie said a man tried to use the bill at Back to Basics, 508 Main St.

“It’s all under investigation at this time,” Gillespie said. “We’re looking into it.”

No other counterfeit bills have been found in the town, he said.

The owner of the store, Jeanine Berrier, could not be reached for comment late Monday.

Gillespie said the suspect was described as a clean-shaven white man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with sandy blond hair. He last was seen wearing a blue jacket and a baseball hat. No vehicle description was given, Gillespie said.

Anyone with information about the suspect can call Crime Stoppers at (888) 311-TIPS — that’s (888) 311-8477.
