Braves start slow in loss to Wildcats

The Ottawa University men’s basketball team could not overcome a slow start Saturday in Wilson Field House.

The Braves shot 24 percent from the field in the first half in an 86-67 loss to Baker. The Wildcats led 50-26 at halftime.

Ottawa warmed up in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats, 41-36. Ottawa shot 52 percent in the second half.

The Braves’ bench outscored Baker, 41-26, but the Wildcats had a 22-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

Baker shot 61.5 percent in the first half and 55 percent for the game.

Ottawa had two players in double figures. Isaac Johnston and Mason McDaniels netted 13 points apiece. McDaniels hit all four shots from floor the floor.

Baker (3-2) was led by Austin Bond with 17 points. Andre Stozier finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Malcomb Greer contributed 13 points. Jaris Wommack had 10 points.

Ottawa (1-4) plays 7 p.m. Tuesday against Avila in Kansas City, Mo.
