Vandals strike again downtown

By The Herald Staff

The Friends of the Library building, 209 E. Second St., Ottawa, apparently was the latest target in a recent rash of window vandalism.

About a dozen businesses throughout Ottawa have reported broken windows this month. Ottawa police said previously it appears someone has been driving by the businesses and using a sling shot to damage windows. Officers recovered three-eighths inch steel hunting shot balls, similar to a large ball bearing, at several of the crime scenes, police reported.

No such ball was recovered at the Friends of the Library building, Scott Bird, Ottawa city clerk and finance director, said. The damage to a front window apparently occurred sometime over the weekend and was reported to police Monday.

Police ask anyone with information about this crime to call the Ottawa Police Department at (785) 242-2561 or Franklin County Crime Stoppers at (888) 311-8477. If your information leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a reward.
