Vandals hit Ottawa businesses

By The Herald Staff

Several Ottawa businesses were vandalized Tuesday and early this morning, the latest in a number of break-ins recently seen throughout city.

About a dozen businesses have reported broken windows this month. Ottawa police have said it appears someone has been driving by the businesses and using a sling shot to damage windows. Officers recovered three-eighths inch steel hunting shot balls, similar to a large ball bearing, at several of the crime scenes, police reported.

The latest businesses vandalized include:

• 11:38 a.m. Tuesday, 300 block of West Wilson Street, a 39-year-old Ottawa man reported an unknown suspect had broken a window out of a backhoe owned by BRB Contractors. Damage estimated at $500.

• 9:08 p.m. Tuesday, 1300 block of East Logan Street, Kansas Gas, a 44-year-old Ottawa man reported his business had a front window broken out with an unknown projectile.

• 10:49 p.m. Tuesday, 235 E. 23rd St., Advance America Loans, a 31-year-old Ottawa man reported the front window of his business broken out with an unknown projectile.

• 1:31 a.m. Wednesday, 1532 S. Main St., EZ Payday Advance, during patrol it was discovered a front window had been broken by an unknown projectile.
