ALVIN EUGENE WRAY

Alvin Eugene Wray, 73, departed life on Nov. 18, 2009, at his son’s residence in Fort Scott, Kan. He was born on May 12, 1936, in Centropolis, Kan., the son of Edna Pearl (Flory) and Covy Guy.

Most of his life he lived in the Centropolis community.

He was a dairy farmer for 49 years and also sold seed for Cargill for several years.

Alvin loved the vast areas of western Kansas, and in his later years, he purchased land there for farming and hunting. Hunting was something he enjoyed a lot, especially in western Kansas where he was able to harvest two trophy antelope and several mule deer.

In 1991, Alvin was involved in a head-on collision, which led to many health issues from then on.

Knowing his need for a savior, he was baptized in 1977. According to James 5:14, he has been anointed twice.

On June 8, 1963, he was united in marriage to Clarabelle Sue Wrightsman. They walked life’s pathway together for 46 years. This union was blessed with three children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ellen Marie Wray in 1945 and Velma Louise Wray in 1951. He is survived by his wife, of the home; daughters; Brenda and her husband, Steve Wilson, of Pomona, Kan.; Sharon McCallop and her husband, James, of Overland Park, Kan.; son, Arlan Wray and his wife, Anna Marie, of Fort Scott, Kan.; five brothers, Leonard and his wife, Elsie, of Pomona, Kan., Lester and his wife, Rozetta, of Laura, Ohio, Leland and his wife, Flo, of Thomasville, Pa., Wayne and his wife, Donna, of Logansport, Ind., and John and his wife, Laura, of New Carlisle, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Alvin was devoted to his savior and spent many hours reading his Bible and talking scripture with people. He was a very independent and strong-willed person.

He will be missed by his family and friends, but we will meet again on that resurrection morning that Alvin so firmly believed in.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Ottawa University Chapel. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.lamb-roberts.com
