Public schools

Ottawa USD 290

Ottawa Schools serve primarily the City of Ottawa and its immediately outlying regions.

The district office, 123 W. Fourth St., can reached at (785) 229-8010.

Elementary schools

The district has five neighborhood elementary schools. While each originally drew students from specified regions of town, that determination is now sometimes made on the basis of school enrollment equity.

Eisenhower School, 1414 S. Ash St., and has an enrollment of about 150, making it the district's smallest elementary. It primarily draws students living west of Main Street and south of 10th Street. It can be reached at (785) 229-8040.

Eisenhower has a Parent-Teacher Organization chapter.
Eugene Field Elementary, 720 Tremont St., has enrollment of almost 200. It primarily draws students living west of Main Street and north of 9th Street. The office can be reached at (785) 229-8050.

Parents and guardians can become involved in the school through Eugene Field Families for Education.
Garfield Elementary, 12th and College streets, has a total enrollment of about 200. It primarily draws students living east of Main Street and south of 9th Street. The office can be reached at (785) 229-8060.

Garfield has a PTO chapter.
Lincoln Elementary, 1102 N. Milner St., enrollment of about 300. It primarily draws students living north of the Marais Des Cygnes River. The office can be reached at (785) 229-8080.

Lincoln has a PTO chapter.
Hawthorne Elementary, 501 S. Poplar St., has a total enrollment of about 155. The office can be reached at 229-8070.

Hawthorne has a PTO chapter.

Middle and High Schools

Ottawa has one middle and one high school. Their mascot name is the Cyclones, and their colors are red and white.

Ottawa Middle School, 1230 S. Ash St., houses grades six though eight, and is led by Principal Randy Oliver. The school has an enrollment of 564 and can be reached at 229-8030. OMS has a PTO chapter.
Ottawa High School, 1120 Ash St., houses grades nine through 12, and is led by Principal Justin Henry. The school has an enrollment of 784 and can be reached at 229-8020. OHS has a booster club that organizes parent support for student activities.

Transportation

The district provides bused transportation to school for students living more than 2.5 miles from their respective school.

High school activities

Ottawa, a 5A school, offers a variety of varsity and junior varsity athletics throughout the school year.

In the fall, OHS offers cross country, football, volleyball and boys' soccer. In the winter, there's basketball and wrestling, while spring heralds baseball, softball, girls' soccer, boys' tennis, track and golf.

In addition to athletics, OHS offers a student council, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Future Educators of America, Forensics, Band, Students Against Drunk Driving, Key Club, FFA, French Club, Art Club, Spirit Squad, Debate and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Central Heights

The Central Heights Unified School District 288 draws students from the communities of Richmond, Princeton, Lane and Rantoul and the immediately outlying areas to a charter school housing the elementary, middle and high school as well as the district office.

All four divisions can be reached by dialing (785) 869-3455. The district has an enrollment of a little more than 600.

The school's colors are blue and gold and their mascot is the Viking.

Activities

Central Heights, a 3A school, offers varsity athletics thoughout the year. In the fall, the school competes in football, volleyball and cross-country. In the winter there's basketball and wrestling, while in the spring, it competes in track, softball and baseball.

Non-athletic offerings thoughout the year include student council, National Honor Society, FFA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Speech and Drama, High-Q, Future Business Leaders of America, Reading Club, Chess Club, Forensics, and various academic clubs like Biology and Art clubs.

Transportation

The Central Heights school district buses any student in the school district as long as they register upon enrollment.

West Franklin

The West Franklin Unified School District 287 primarily serves students living in the communities of Pomona and Williamsburg, as well as most areas west of the Ottawa and Central Heights districts.

District schools include West Franklin High School at Pomona, a combined West Franklin Middle School at Pomona, and K-5 elementary schools at Williamsburg and Appanoose.

Transportation

The West Franklin school district busses all students in the distirct who request it at enrollment and live outside the city limits.

Appanoose Elementary

Appanoose Grade School houses grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Enrollment is about 170. The school can be reached at (785) 566-3386. The school has a PTO chapter.

West Franklin High School

The West Franklin High School is at 511 E. Franklin St., Pomona. The office can be reached at (785) 566-3512. It has an enrollment of more than 300.

The school's mascot is the falcon and its colors are blue, silver, black and white.

Middle School and Elementary School

Williamsburg Elementary School is a K-5 school in Williamsburg. It can be reached at (785) 746-5777.

Activities

West Franklin, a 3A school, offers girls' golf, cross country, football and volleyball in the fall. Winter heralds basketball, and in spring, the school fields baseball and softball teams a spring track team.

Other activities at include Kay Club, Future Business Leaders of America, FFA, Student Council, Drama, Scholars' Bowl and National Honor Society.

Wellsville

Wellsville Unified School District 288 serves the community of Wellsville as well as much of the northeast corner of the county.

All schools' colors are red and blue, and their mascot is the eagle.
