Legislators, officials plan dinner

By JODIE GARCIA, Herald Staff Writer

Representatives from the city, county and school district will meet with area legislators to discuss issues affecting Ottawa and Franklin County during an annual legislative dinner.

The dinner will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin County Office Annex, 1428 S. Main St.

The invitation-only event will allow local leaders an opportunity to discuss regional issues and current projects and ask questions of the legislators.

Last year’s topics included the new U.S. 59 and its impact on Ottawa and Franklin County, teacher recruitment and retention, a state school finance plan and payday loans.

Local officials said some topics that likely will be discussed this year include school finance, demand transfers and the need for state support for local projects in light of funding cuts to local government entities.
