Lady Braves post first KCAC win

The Ottawa University women’s basketball team entered Saturday’s game with Bethany at Wilson Field House as one of two teams winless in the conference.

The Lady Braves finally broke through for a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference victory with a 53-42 win over the Swedes. Ottawa is tied with Bethany and Bethel with 1-3 marks heading into the holiday break.

The Lady Braves scored 19 points off 16 Bethany turnovers and had a 22-12 advantage in the paint. Ottawa scored 14 points off transition.

Ottawa led from start to finish, building a 20-point lead with 13:23 left in the game.

The Lady Braves came out hot, hitting 56 percent from the field in the first half. Ottawa led 33-20 at halftime.

Ottawa (4-9) managed just 20 points in the second half on 21 percent shooting.

Bethany sliced the 20-point deficit to 48-42 with 1:25 left in the game. Ottawa hit five free throws to seal the victory.

Junior Amber Ramsey paced Ottawa with 21 points on 9-for-14 shooting. She had nine rebounds and two assists.

Junior Morgan Boore scored eight points and had a team-high three assists.

Boore and Angelic Frazier led Ottawa with four steals apiece.

Seniors Kelsi Meier and Lauren Buckles netted eight points each.

Ottawa (53) — Dowell 2, Ramsey 21, Meier 8, Neptune 2, Frazier 4, Buckles 8, Boore 8.
