Scrapbooking shop moving into Aunt Jenny’s Stitch ‘n Stuff store

By MEAGAN PATTON, Herald Connections Editor

A win-win situation.

That’s what Jenny Obrecht, owner of Aunt Jenny’s Stitch ‘n Stuff, is saying about Tracey Wade and Janice Davis, owners of Paper Haven, moving into her rented space.

The move will be complete sometime in mid-January, Obrecht said, while Wade and Davis’ last day at 1536 S. Main will be Sunday.

“She’s a crafter. I’m a crafter,” Obrecht said. “It’ll bring me more business and make her’s more visible. It just seemed like a natural thing to do.”

Obrecht opened her business at 204 S. Main in November and offers about 20 booths in her store available for other crafters. All of them currently are rented out, she said, with items like homemade yarn, Christmas ornaments and hand-knit hats and gloves.

Moving was not an easy decision, Davis said, but it was one that will make everyone’s lives easier. With family obligations and the expense of operating a retail store independently, they decided it would be more conducive to operate in another business, Davis said.

This isn’t the first time they’ve relocated. Since opening about five years ago at 119 S. Main St., they’ve moved their business two other times — first to 127 S. Main St., where the Sandbar Sub Shop now is, and then to 1536 S. Main St.

Those relocations were because of issues with the buildings, including high utility bills and water leakage, she said.

“When we felt like it was time to move, we moved,” Davis said. “I guess we’re getting a reputation for moving.”

But Davis said she’s looking forward to this one.

“We miss being uptown,” Davis said. “We really like the atmosphere on Main Street. This location has its advantages, but we really like the idea of being with other crafters.”

The relocation will allow for both to spend more time with family members, focus on the business’ Web site and work at their other jobs, Davis said.

Paper Haven will be having a sale Saturday and Sunday to trim down its inventory before the move.

“Just so we don’t have so many boxes to pack,” Davis said.

Paper Haven, which also was popular for its craft classes, will be continuing those activities at the new location after getting moved in.
