Sheriff’s office taps new pubilc information contact

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has designated an acting public information office after its former PIO was arrested Wednesday on felony charges.

Det. Sgt. Shane Pruitt succeeds Jerrod Fredricks, master deputy and former public information officer with the sheriff’s office, after Fredricks was arrested this week on a charge of interference with law enforcement. Fredricks, who was arrested at about noon Wednesday at the Franklin County Attorney’s Office, posted $1,500 bail and was released from custody, according to the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry also was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of interference with law enforcement (false report) and a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct, according to a release from the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office. Curry posted a $3,000 bail and also was released from custody.

Curry and Fredricks are set for their first court appearance in Franklin County District Court 11 a.m. March 6.
