Longtime business owner surprised with top aviation honor

By ABBY ECKEL, Herald Staff Writer

Bob Dodson, owner of Dodson Aviation at the Ottawa Municipal Airport, 2110 Montana Road, Ottawa, stands in the hangar in front of the first airplane he bought when he was 18. Six or seven years ago, Dodson’s employees surprised him by tracking down the plane, which they purchased from a farmer in South Carolina, and gave to him as a surprise when he returned home from a trip to Africa. Dodson was awarded the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award Thursday during a company party. The award recognizes pilots who have demonstrated professionalism, skill and aviation expertise by maintaining safe operations for 50 or more years, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s website.
