Sheriff: Attacker knew victims, home invasion wasn’t random

GARNETT — A person who assaulted a 54-year-old Anderson County man and his 84-year-old father called the victims by name during the attack, the Anderson County sheriff said Monday.

“The [assailant] knew the victims,” Vern Valentine, Anderson County sheriff, said of the home invasion Thursday east of Garnett. “We have interviewed a couple of suspects, and we believe this was an isolated incident. It’s still under investigation.”
