Family’s love of aviation soars on

By CLINTON DICK, Herald Staff Writer

Steve Baker holds a Piper J-3 Cub model that he plans to use as a flight simulator Tuesday at his office, 524 N. Birch St., Ottawa. Baker is the owner and founder of Baker Aviation in Ottawa, which is a business that focuses on locating aircraft parts for customers. “I’m the guy that if nobody else can find it, I can,” Baker said. “People from all over the world call me looking for specific parts. I know what they need because I’ve been there and done that.” Aviation is a family tradition for the Bakers. Roy Baker, Steve’s father, owned Baker Flying Service for about 30 years before Steve Baker took over the family business. Baker also owns a ATC 510 Flight Simulator complete with rutter pedals. Aviation has been a family tradition for the Bakers for three generations. Steve Baker took over the family business in 1987.
