Today in History, September 1913

• After listening to arguments from telephone men, businessmen and others all day, the city commissioners adjourned this afternoon without taking action on the telephone question. The consolidation of the local telephone exchanges has been discussed for several years.

• The wooden forms on the new concrete dam will be removed tomorrow morning. Chairman Henry Ott of the dam committee wants a large force of men on the ground in the morning to be ready to remove the refuse near the dam. The pile of dirt and rock in front of the structure will be thrown to the back of the dam. This will be smoother so that there will be a general incline from the west to the crest of the dam. The dam is erected so that the water will flow over in a solid sheet. The incline will be rip-rapped to prevent erosion. The top of the dam was given a smooth surface this morning, and the wingwalls of the dam also are completed.
