Some changes are coming to the USD 290 calendar for the 2018-19 school year. The Ottawa school board approved the calendar for next year at its meeting Monday night.

Dr. Jeanne Stroh, superintendent of Ottawa schools, presented the calendar after meeting with the calendar committee and the Ottawa Education Association president. The calendar adds 20 minutes to the end of the elementary school day with Lincoln Elementary to dismiss at 3:15. Sunflower and Garfield Elementary schools will dismiss at 3:20.

Also added were four personal development days and late starts on Friday next year will only be one time a month instead of every week.

The first full day of school will be Aug. 17 and the last day of school will be May 15, 2019. Winter break will begin Dec. 20 and classes will resume on Jan. 3.

In other news the board:

• Agreed to sell the unused bus stop shelters that are in storage.

• Approved bids for flooring and painting at Ottawa Middle School and interior painting at Lincoln Elementary school.
