Both videos were in the Professional Public Service Announcement category. The Best in Show Award is an exclusive honor, only given to the top scoring show for each category/entry level.
The Alliance in Community Media Midwest Region includes the states of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The purpose of the organization is, “To protect and increase freedom of expression, diversity of ideas, and community communication through electronic media in the Midwest region of the Alliance for Community Media.”
Hundreds of videos were submitted by PEG (Public Access, Education and Government) channels to the Best of the Midwest Media Fest and only 11 were selected as Best in Show, officials said.
This was the first year the City of Ottawa submitted videos to the Media Fest. Simonson joined the City of Ottawa 11 years ago after working at WIBW and graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in film.
