Mat Simonson, Multi-Media Specialist for the City of Ottawa, was recognized by the Alliance in Community Media Midwest Region at the annual Media Fest Banquet held in the Wisconsin Dells on May 9.

Simonson received multiple awards from the Alliance in Community Media for videos he created in 2018. The award winning videos included:

Donate to Legacy Square — Award of Achievement & Best In Show – Commercial/Sponsorship Spot: Professional.

Ottawa Police Department D.A.R.E. Camp 2018 — Award of Achievement, Local Events: Professional.

Ripples of Change — Award of Merit; Short Form Documentary/Feature: Professional.

“I don’t know what it feels like to summit Everest but I’ve got to imagine that winning these awards is a close second.” Simonson said.

The Alliance in Community Media Midwest Region includes the states Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The purpose of the organization is to protect and increase freedom of expression, diversity of ideas, and community communication through electronic media in the Midwest region of the Alliance for Community Media.

Simonson joined the City of Ottawa in 2006 after working at WIBW and graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in film.
