A provisional ballot will decide if the City of Wellsville imposes a half-cent sales tax.
A special election was Tuesday and the count was even at 62-62. That provisional ballot will be opened Monday during the canvass after the Franklin County commissioner study session. The commissioners meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Franklin County annex.
The purpose of the revenue generated from the sales tax will be used for the benefit of the general public and for public purposes to enhance community and quality-of-life services offered within the corporate boundaries of the city, including but not limited to library services, and to assist persons or entities within the City in preserving significant historical elements of the City for future generations to enjoy. If passed, the collection of the additional half-cent salex tax begins on Jan. 1, 2020.
