The National Weather Service predicts the Marais des Cygnes River at Ottawa will start to decline quickly throughout the day Tuesday.
The river level was at 32.22 feet at 9:30 a.m. and is predicted to be at flood stage, 31.0, by 1 p.m. The NWS predicts the river level to be at 28 feet by 7 p.m. and down to 8.5 feet by 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The city of Ottawa closed the flood gates Sunday afternoon as the river crested at 34 feet Monday morning. It was the second time in the past few weeks the flood gates were closed.
