Iona Fern Olsen, 91, Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.

Fern was born on Oct. 25, 1927, in Wright, Kansas, the fifth of 10 children born to Jim and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Camp) Reckie. She graduated from Williamsburg High School.

She was united in marriage to Russell Thomas Walker on Sept. 25, 1948. They were blessed with five daughters. Fern later married Leo W. Olsen in 1966.

Fern worked for the Arapahoe County Assessor’s Office as a clerk for 30 years. Fern took great pride in her Catholic faith. She enjoyed anything that brought her family together, especially birthdays, holidays, and reunions. She loved music, dancing, word search and jigsaw puzzles, potlucks with her Sunflower family, phone calls from her sons-in-law, giving lipstick kisses to all of the guys in the family, young to old; but most of all, she loved playing Farkel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lizzie Reekie; sisters, Ruby Hamilton, Thelma Hamilton and Roberta Knight; brothers, Wilbur, William, Harold, Jimmy and Larry Reekie; daughter, Linda Bloechlinge, and grandson, Jason Powell.

Fern is survived by her daughters, Pamela Bunch and husband, Jim, Nixa, Missouri; Sandra Miller and husband, Michael, Jarrell, Texas; Karen Powell and husband, Randy, Sedalia, Colorado; and Ann Carrera, Englewood, Colorado; sister, Carol Richardson and husband, Reed, Garnett, Kansas; 11 granchildren: Derek and Kevin Bunch; Stacy, Daniel and Jeremy Blochlinger; Tom, Ben and Joe Miller; Kristy Plenter; Dustin and Katie Carrera; and 14 great-grandchildren: Trent, Bridget, Lacey, Jeremiah, Abrigail, Cherish, Jessica, Jacob, Daniel, Virginia, Sarah, Michael Ephraim and Lonna; a one great-great granddaughter, Patience Iona: many nieces and nephews, and abundance of friends.

A memorial service was held on Sept. 19, 2019, at Feuerborn Funeral Chapel. Rev. Jerry Williams, O. Carm., officiated. She is buried at Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, Kansas. Her family would like to thank the many friends and extended family for the love and support and kindness given to them. A special thank you to all her Sunflower Plaza friends for your love and friendships over the years.
