LEAVENWORTH — The Ottawa University women’s volleyball team’s chance to climb to the top of the KCAC standings took a hit Wednesday night in Leavenworth.

Saint Mary, the KCAC leaders, remained unbeaten in conference play by dropping Ottawa, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 19-25 at the Ryan Sport Center. Ottawa fell to third place in the KCAC, two matches behind the conference-leading Spires (8-0).

Ottawa started the match on fire, taking a 14-6 lead en route to the first set victory. Saint Mary controlled play in the other three sets.

Ottawa had 53 kills, a .157 attacking percentage, 47 assists, six service aces, 73 digs, and four team blocks.

Ayona Tharps led Ottawa with 14 kills. Yulieka Jimenez finished with 11 kills and a .346 attacking percentage. Allison Bauer had 24 assists and 10 digs. Christa Todd led Ottawa with 13 digs. Autumn Freeman finished with 11, and Heather Huesman had 10 digs.

Ottawa (17-13, 6-2) plays 7 p.m. Tuesday against Avila University in Kansas City, Mo.
