The 2020 KCAC Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll has been released, the conference office announced.
The Ottawa University baseball was picked to finish eighth by the conference coaches in the 2020 KCAC preseason coaches poll. Ottawa received 49 points to finish just ahead of Southwestern (43).
Defending KCAC champion Oklahoma Wesleyan University was picked to repeat as champions. The Eagles received 120 points and 10 first-place votes. In second was Tabor College with 104 points. Rounding out the top three was McPherson College with 95 points.
In fourth was York College (89), fifth Sterling College (75), sixth Friends University (69), seventh Kansas Wesleyan University (63), eight Ottawa University (49), ninth Southwestern College (43), 10th Bethany College (42), 11th Avila University (16), and 12th University of Saint Mary (15).
The 2020 Braves will look to improve on last season’s overall record of 20-26 and it 10th-place finish in the KCAC (10-23).
“We are pleased with the players we currently have; both offensively and on the mound,” Ottawa second-year baseball head coach Gabe Grinder said. “We worked hard on the recruiting trail this past year and believe it’ll payoff for us. We are very hopeful that this group of young men will be able to set Ottawa back on the right track. There was a time when winning was a common occurrence inside this program, and we believe this group of guys has what it takes to restore that this season.”
Ottawa opens the 2020 season on the road in a four-game series against Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Game 1 starts Jan. 31 in Waxachie, Texas.
