Look for a chance for fog early Wednesday, with temperatures falling during the day in Topeka and vicinity.

The temperature at 5 a.m. was 46 degrees, but forecasters say the mercury should drop to the lower-40s by mid-afternoon and to 35 by sundown.

Highs on Thursday should only reach the lower-30s, with measurable snowfall expected late Thursday into early Friday. A wintry mix of precipitation and rain is possible on Friday, when highs should reach the mid-40s.

Saturday's high should be in the mild- to upper-30s and Sunday's high should top out in the upper-20s.

Here is the seven-day outlook from the National Weather Service:

• Today: Areas of fog early. Otherwise, cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a temperature falling to around 35 by 5 p.m. North wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

• Thursday: A 20 percent chance of snow in the evening. Increasing clouds, with a high near 30. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

• Thursday night: Snow, mainly after midnight. Low around 28. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

• Friday: Sleet, possibly mixed with snow in the morning, then rain. High near 47. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

• Friday night: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Blustery. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy.

• Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18.
